Piling On ≠ Good Design

17 01 2018

This was going to be a post about the trailer for A Wrinkle in Time. I was excited for this movie initially, but then….. Mrs. Which has jeweled eyebrows? What is the rationale for that? It seems like they’re piling on visual details, just because they can.

The more I think about it, the more I see pointless piling on everywhere. I think it’s one reason that more and more, every big production looks like every other big production. I wish designers would instead be inventive with major design elements to create distinctive worlds.

Sometimes they do. Some film and tv makers are consistently visually brilliant. I’m just sad to see the overall trend toward piling on.
