I was really worried about Thor. I couldn’t see a way for a mainstream movie to get away with the main character being an actual pagan god. When I heard the chatter that he would be from another planet, I had visions of a Highlander 2 style train wreck.

Happily, my fears were totally unwarranted. The movie struck the perfect balance between the flashy Asgardians of Jack Kiby, the more sophisticated Ultimate Thor, and the epic sweep of the original myths.

The casting was great. The designs were great. The effects and the battles were appropriately scaled up for quasi-divine beings. The only disappointment was the post-end-credits stinger, which is now compulsory for all Avengers tie-ins. If you don’t stay for this one, you’re not missing anything.
